Write Time 1/9/13

Last night was the first Write Time of 2013, and in our usual fashion we ran a little over our normal goal of an hour broadcast ;) But that's okay! We were on a roll. We covered a whole variety of topics, including:
  • What we have been up to over the last month while not doing Write Time (spoiler alert, we've been busy!) (0:52)
  • We bought a second, yes, a second gold Pontiak Aztek…we now have a pair ;)
  • Pilot Iroshizuku inks, Ama-Iro, Shin-Kai, Take-Sumi, to arrive today! These inks will complete the Iroshizuku line at 24 inks total (8:40)
  • Diamine Music Set, pack of 10 unique inks named after composers to arrive sometime soon. We were originally told the set was going to be limited and heard back the morning after this broadcast that they in fact will be regularly available (15:20)
  • TWSBI 580's, hopefully to arrive the end of January with Jowo nibs (19:00)
  • Noodler's Ripple Ebonite Konrad pens, coming next week (maybe the week after) but in very good supply! (22:25)
  • New Rhodia/Clairefontaine products coming very soon (37:30)
  • Our thoughts and goals for 2013 on GouletPens.com (47:10)

We have a lot of different things we're looking to pursue in 2013, and we have to focus our efforts on the things that are most in demand and most achievable to us given our current resources of time, money, and talent. One this is for sure, as much as we've improved our website and tried to improve the overall writing experience, we will continue to do so with passion and vigor. If you have any ideas of things you'd like to see us do or resources that you know that would help us to achieve our goals, do let us know in the comments!

Thanks to everyone who joined us live, it was a nice broadcast and we're glad to be back. We'll see you next week for another Write Time at 9 ;)

Write On,
Brian Goulet

  1. I got my wife the Clairefontaine 1951 notebook in blue (it's available here in the UK) and it's fantastic ( Yes, I am a bit jealous of the gift I got her) The matte textured cover feels great and the paper is (as always) super nice and smooth. It also lays really nice and flat. On top of it all it's just so cool and retro. If it strikes your fancy, I highly recommend it :)

  2. I love how you engage your customers thru these videos. I will listen to the rest of the goals section (end of the video) soon, it got late tonight. I think the idea of comparative ink reviews is good, but the ultimate comparative ink review is the ink samples you sell. I think that's invaluable...I've used it twice, comparing four colors each time (with a glass pen, quick and easy) and nothing shows how they perform better than that. Personally I think your website is amazing. More comments later maybe, when I see the rest. Best wishes, and ouch! on the broken light bulbs!!!!

  3. Cool, thanks for your feedback! We're going to be getting these in tomorrow, so I'll be able to play with them for myself. I'm excited!

  4. Thanks Chuck! Yes, the ink samples really do a far better job telling you what the ink is like than anything else I could do for you. I'm going to make it my goal just to do more ink reviews at all, as it was a struggle for me to get many of them done at all in 2012. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the other things we talked about when you have a chance to finish the video. Thanks for your compliments!

  5. Good video, Goulets. I do wish TWSBI would give us some pics of the new pens. I understand keeping it close to the vest until it's final, but I wanna get psyched for something a little while before I can get it. Anticipation, you know.

  6. I doubt they're intentionally withholding pictures, they're pretty liberal with showing pics of all their other pens, even LONG before they're ready to sell. I'm willing to bet the design is very similar to the 540, and either not worth posting pictures due to the similarity, or that they've been spending all their time tweaking and changing the pen/preparing them for release that they just haven't had time or didn't think about it. Either way, we should see them really soon.

  7. Please send me an Email when the Konrad Ripple Ebonite pens come in. I don't want to miss out this time. Thanks!

  8. Big thumbs up for carrying Stillman & Birn sketchbooks. I've started an ink journal with mine, and the thick paper is fantastic for ink swabs/smears (I've been using a painter's palette knife for my swabs).

  9. The best thing to do is to sign up for the email notification list under the 'add to cart' button on the page for the specific pen you want. That'll send you an email automatically as soon as we have them in.
