Noodler's Flex Pen Cleaning and Disassembly

There are a lot of Noodler's Flex Pens floating around out there, and I thought a video on how to completely disassemble and clean them would be helpful to a lot of you out there. This is a great pen for experimentation because it comes apart completely with just the use of a Q-tip!
I spend some time towards the end of the video on adjusting the nib and feed to suit your writing style and the ink you use, but I plan on covering that more thoroughly in another video. The main point I want to get across in this video is that you shouldn't be afraid to take this pen apart and learn it inside out. The more familiar you are with your pen, the better you'll be able to adjust it for yourself and the more enjoyment you'll get out of it! The silicone grease I use in the video can be found here, but lots of other kinds will work too (just don't use silicone CAULK, that's not going to end well for you).

ReplyDeleteOMG you fixed my pen in 2 seconds! My flez was too dry with the black swan ink and I had planned to just change to an everflo. Instead I just adjusted the feed!
ReplyDeleteIt took 2 seconds and I didn't even empty the pen. I'm sooo happy right now I can even tell you. I'm taking apart all of my noodlers pens tonight.
@Juliet, that's great to hear!!! This is exactly how I felt when I first discovered it. Total elation! I'm working on a video right now showing how adjusting the nib/feed affects the way the pen writes, it should be done in a day or two ;)
ReplyDeleteMy main prblem with the Noodler's flex is - though it works fine while I'm writing with it - each time I open the cap again the next day I find the nib dried out. I.e., it never starts immediately. I always have to tap the nib several times or squeeze ink out using the piston to get it flowing again. Does anyone have a similar problem? Will making this a wetter pen using Brian's nib adjustment method make it less likely to dry out? This has been the reason the pen has been only used as a desk pen so far.
ReplyDeleteEunai, the nib adjustment help some. Try storing the pen on it's side one night and use it in the AM. If it is still bad maybe try covering the breather hole in the cap.
