Adding 'Pen Stuff' to Ink Nouveau + a 'mystery' pen

It's become pretty apparent to me that we're going to have to add a day for 'Pen Stuff' to our daily Ink Nouveau blogging schedule. Here's our current schedule if you're not familiar already:

Sunday: Tips and Tricks (Ink Blots, tips and advice for making your writing experience better)
Monday: Ink Stuff (reviews, details, features, comparisons, etc)
Tuesday: Write Time Itinerary (topics to discuss, taking questions, etc)
Wednesday: Write Time recorded video
Thursday: Paper Stuff (overviews, comparisons, etc)
Friday: Random cool stuff (writing related)
Saturday: GouletPens/Product Announcements

This schedule has been working out pretty well for us so far, the only thing is there's no dedicated day for pen stuff! We end up blogging it on Tuesdays, Fridays, or Saturday (if it's related to products we'll be carrying), but a dedicated day to pens is overdue, I think.

Of course ultimately it's going to depend on what's best for us, but do you have a preference? I'm thinking Friday would be good, so let's try it out! Here's what we'll do from now on:

Sunday: Tips and Tricks (Ink Blots, tips and advice for making your writing experience better)
Monday: Ink Stuff (reviews, details, features, comparisons, etc)
Tuesday: Write Time Itinerary (topics to discuss, taking questions, etc)
Wednesday: Write Time recorded video
Thursday: Paper Stuff (overviews, comparisons, etc)
Friday: Pen Stuff (reviews, features, comparisons, etc)
Saturday: GouletPens/Product Announcements

Friday: Pen Stuff

As many of you know (or at least will now), all of the Noodler's 4.5 ounce ink bottles come with eyedropper caps, and many of them come with free pens. These pens have typically been unmarked Platinum Preppy's that have been converted to eyedropper fill pens (that don't require a converter). However, I found a neat little surprise when I pulled aside a bottle of Noodler's Nikita today for doing ink samples:

A new type of pen!! I hadn't heard anything about it, or even seen a pen like it! It's what appears to be a Noodler's Nib Creaper eyedropper fill pen, but with a clear body and a swirly red acrylic section, finial, and cap. Where in the world did this thing come from?

I immediately called my distributor to figure out what is going on with these pens! Apparently, Nathan likes to experiment with different stuff (if you hadn't noticed!), and has these pens going out in all the Nikita 4.5 ounce bottles now. The pens aren't available individually, just with the inks. Soooo....basically if you want to buy the pen, you could view it as you're getting a free HUGE bottle of ink, or if you want the ink, you're getting a pretty snazzy pen to boot.

I've also been told there are some of these pens with a blue swirl acrylic instead of the red. Perhaps they'll be coming in 4.5 ounce Polar Blue? Looks like I'd better go check my Polar Blue....okay nope, still Preppys.

Another thing I heard about was a rollerball tip for the Preppy to be included with Noodler's Heart of Darkness 4.5 ounce bottles. Sure enough...yup! The Preppys now have both a fountain pen (.3mm) tip and a rollerball tip. Check the vid below.

This is all new stuff, and all of the 'old' bottles of Nikita and HOD are going to have just the .3 Preppys. So if you definitely want the new pens, ask your retailer of choice about which ones they have first. If GouletPens.com is your retailer of choice, know that all of the Nikita and HOD that we have on hand now has these new pens (we checked). Not to say they will forever, things sometimes change suddenly with Noodler's!

  2. Seriously! Nathan is seriously like Willy Wonka. The man must have Oompa-Loompas doing all this stuff for him, I have no clue how he does it all! The man must LOVE to work ;)

  3. I might as well just hand over my next paycheck to you. LOL I just got my last order not long ago, and now I think I'm going to have to get a bottle of Nikita to get one of those pens. :) (OK, I have actually been considering getting the ink anyway, but getting the pen too might make it too good a deal to pass up)

  4. ok erm just a few comments:

Firstly i actually prefer the old blog format better, where i don't know what to expect the next so every blog post is a surprise to me. However, the new blog format is much more organized and give the viewer a sense of what to expect.

Secondly, Nikita and HOD are on my list of to buy Noodler's ink, though this blog post just bump them up to the very top! At this point i'll like to ask a question: Besides the Nikita and HOD, the rest of the 4.5oz ink that you're selling still comes with the original eye dropper preppy right?

  5. Kite, so you like a less structured format? I mean, I can certainly wing it, if that's what works best for everyone. I will be honest though, having sort of a set topic in place each day does help me organize stuff a little better. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Regarding the other 4.5 ounce bottles, not ALL of them come with the free pens. However, the ones that do come with the eyedropper Preppys, yes.

  6. Crazy Quakers. Next they'll be golden tickets in random packages of ink and I'm thinking about Joseph Conrad instead of working. Avoid combining the two former concepts if you can.

Heart of Darkness is on my Christmas list, hope it turns up.

What's the ETA on the flex nibs?

  7. Flex nibs are due early next week. We're planning a big release of them along with some other cool stuff, more on that in a blog post to come ;)

  8. Is the rollerball tip of Platinum's or Noodlers' making?

  9. I'm curious too.. Has the platinum rollerball tip been seen elsewhere?

  10. Wow! Now, if I only didn't already have 2/3 of a bottle of Nikita. Great color, just don't get it on white shirts. I suppose it is too early to know anything about where those pens were sourced from. The cap and section remind me of the Wality eye droppes. It looks a little like a thin Wality 69 small. However, the end is different, and, of course, it has the nib creaper nib.

  11. WHOA. I'm a huge, huge sucker for red—I wasn't even aware of the 'Nikita' color, and now I find out it comes with that snazzy red ED? Freakin' spazzing out here! I might just order a bottle from you today!

(...Now I just have to find a place that sells silicone grease for those threads...)

  12. GAH! I already have about 2oz of Nikita left so no red eyedropper in my immediate future... I was considering an HOD purchase though and this may push me to it. I really hope those neat eyedroppers become more widely available. The ventless creaper nib is SMOOOOTH.

R, I got a little container of silicone grease from Lowe's near the plumbing stuff for $2.50. Small white container the brand is "Gunk".

  13. R, not to make you 'spazz out' more, but I've sourced out some silicone grease and I'm just waiting for it to come in. It'll be about a week before I have it up and going.

  14. that's really a nice surprise.

  15. Truppi, Brian -- thanks for the info! Wish I'd thought to check here before placing my order; I might have waited and bought both together for the sake of convenience. Ah, well. Great to hear that you'll be stocking it in the future.

  16. Brian, in regards to your question above:

For me as a reader of the blog, it doesn't matter to me what your topic is from day to day. If you are winging it or following a schedule, it doesn't matter. However, if it makes it easier for you to follow a schedule and be organized, then go for it. Honestly, as much as you having going on, I would think that having some sort of schedule makes complete sense. If it is easier for you and it helps you, then do it and we all reap the rewards.

Looking forward to seeing those new flex pens. Hopefully, I will get to place an order this time before holiday shopping consumes my paycheck.

  17. If you are like me, the schedule is random because I can't remember what the topic is supposed to be for the day. Anything written is a surprise because we have no clue what goodies may appear anyway. I am certain it would be much easier to plan the posts with a schedule. The scheduled topics work for me.

  18. Have you had a chance to take the rollerball out for a "test drive"? Any idea how it compares with the Noodler's creeper rollerball?

    Francis

    ReplyDelete
  19. Francis, actually I haven't yet! If anyone out there does before I get a chance, do share! I'm thinking they will be pretty identical in the way they write, it's just the filling method is different (piston vs. eyedropper). Perhaps I'll look to do a comparison....sometime! :P

  20. Is the rollerball tip of Platinum's or Noodlers' making?

  22. Wonder does Nathan take in apprentice? Just an interesting out of the blue wild and baseless thoughts

    ReplyDelete
  23. He's flying solo at the moment, I have no idea if he'd be interested in an apprentice (likely not, though).
