I announced the other day that Private Reserve was coming out with two new colors, Rose Rage and Sepia. They were kind enough to send me some samples of each color for me to test, and I will be doing full reviews of the two inks in the very near future (within a week or so).
Rose Rage is a VERY bright bubblegum pink color, very vibrant! Sepia is a yellowish brown, similar to Diamine Golden Brown but with shading that is out of this world. These inks are brand spanking new and will be available from retailers like me within a couple of weeks.
**Update- they are now available in 50ml bottles at GouletPens.com.
Are these colors that will be accepted will in the writing community or are they too obscure?
The sepia has incredible shading, i'm pretty sure there will be a few takers.

Sepia does have pretty mind-blowing shading, and it also works REALLY well on cheap paper. I think it'll certainly gain traction. I'll have my review of that coming out in a few days.
ReplyDeleteThe Rose Rage is certainly not going to be an every day color, but what I like about is it doesn't 'tip-toe' around the fact that it's pink. So many other pinks are either more subtle, have a lot of red to them, almost like they don't have the balls to be really pink. Well, Rose Rage has balls! It apologizes to no one.
Sepia looks like a great ink for something different, shading that looks like a fountain pen (not a gel), and if it works on computer printer paper - I may have to grab a bottle. Can't wait for the review!

Testing Rose Rage as a highlighter, that's a great idea inksmears! I'll definitely have to do that. I haven't done my review for that yet so I will definitely do so.
ReplyDeleteAnd about the shading in the Sepia, it's really pretty intense. Normally shading doesn't come out at all in ink swabs like I have in the picture in this post, but even with a q-tip you can see it shades.

The Sepia is pretty neat. Have you tried it on an ivory paper yet? THat's where I like my browns but this one is maybe a tad light to stand out...
ReplyDeleteI have tried it on ivory, actually. That'll be in the full review. It will definitely stand out. The ivory brings out more of the yellow in the ink, and really makes it look 'vintage'. It's pretty neat, but I'll let you decide for yourself when you see the review!
ReplyDeleteSepia is an ink color that deserves wider acceptance even in the business world. It is a nice contrast with the typical black and blues and it could work well in presentations and handouts.

ReplyDeleteThe Rose reminds me of Diamine Claret, which doesn't _sound_ like a bright colour but is. I did once do a trial to see how long I could write in it with a broad nib in my journal and it took about a page and a half before my eyes started failing.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely more excited for Rose Rage, but I like bright, loud colors. (I'm the kid the teachers hated for turning in homework written in neon pink gel ink)
ReplyDeleteSepia isn't for me because I have some sort of visceral repulsion of brown-ish colors. That's probably why I dye may hair so much... If I did like them, Sepia looks like a great ink; it's just not my cup of tea.
The shading in Sepia looks absolutely astounding. I love brown inks, but it looks to yellowed, where I like my browns to be more orange-y.
